Remembering Grant. The National U S Grant Trail Association has inherited three major educational programs that were established by its predecessor, Missouri’s Civil War Heritage Foundation, and they are: 1) an annual academic symposium that features scholars from across the country, and a growing national audience; 2) a site marking program, so far confined to Missouri Civil War sites and themes; and 3) a public education and tourism promotion endeavor, the original “U. S. Grant Trail,” which now encompasses sites in Illinois and Kentucky as well as in Missouri.
The U. S. Grant Symposium was first presented, in St. Louis, in 2014. The event is held each year on or near the anniversary of Ulysses Grant’s death in 1885. Our Keynote Speakers over the years have included historians Ronald C. White, John Marszalek and Timothy B. Smith, and many other notable speakers.
